Patti Trout

WELCOME!

Thank you for visiting my website to view my artwork, it means the world to me and I appreciate it!

Let me introduce myself. My name is Patti Trout and I'm a self-taught acrylic wildlife, nature and pet portrait artist.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Patti Trout is a self-taught artist known for her love of painting nature, animals, both wildlife and pets. She aims to recreate that feeling of awe when seeing these amazing creatures. To bring you a sense of wonder and connection.

Born in New Brunswick, and now residing in Alberta, Canada, Patti has been creating her art since the Covid lockdown. She decided it was time to push past her anxiety and bring that feeling of awe and positivity to those who need it.

Patti’s artwork is captivating, realistic and emotionally uplifting. Her art is created to stop you in your tracks and help you realize that no matter what you may be going through, there is always a connection that never fails you. A light always shines somewhere to bring you a sense of gratitude and hope in this world. It's just a case of finding it, then grasping hold of it as tight as you can and never letting go.

Kayak Acrylic Nature Portrait Painting

MY STORY

For as long as I can remember, I’ve wrestled with depression and crippling anxiety, especially around people. Back when I was growing up, no one really talked about mental health, so I learned to hide it. On the outside, I smiled and did my best. On the inside, I felt small, always second guessing myself, and never quite “good enough.”

Even when I owned my own hair salon, doing work l loved and surrounded by clients who were quite honestly, amazing people, I questioned my worth. I brushed off every compliment, thinking they were just trying to being kind.

Then one day, everything changed.

Just before the Covid lockdown in 2020, my husband and I were kayaking on the Bay of Fundy, when his boat flipped and sank in six-foot waves, a mile offshore during a freak storm.

He was able to swim to my kayak and grabbed the bungy cord! As he clung to the back of my kayak, his weight made the waves of water start to pour into my kayak. I remember thinking, “So… this is how we die.”

But instead of giving up, I slid my body to the front of the kayak, lifting the back of the kayak just enough that the next wave went around it... and then paddled with everything I had left! In that terrifying, life-or-death moment, something inside me shifted. With six-foot waves crashing around us, I found a strength I didn’t know I had.

That day, I realized I was strong enough. I was capable. And I made a promise to myself: I would stop hiding. I would stop letting fear and self-doubt make my choices for me.

Painting became one of the ways I kept that promise.

Because every time I stand in front of a blank canvas, that same voice of fear tries to creep in... “You’re not good enough.” But now I know how to answer it. I remember the waves. I remember the strength I found when I thought there was nothing left. So, I paint anyway and seem to always discover more of who I really am.

My hope is that when you look at my artwork, you feel a bit of that courage too. A reminder that even when life feels overwhelming, there’s more strength inside you than you realize.

FAVORITE NEW BRUNSWICK MEMORY

Wildlife has always made me feel grateful and, well...unjudged.
It was a privilege to raise an orphaned groundhog in 2021, in the midst of the Covid lockdown.

Integrating Duck Pond Della into the wild was such a beautiful accomplishment, but bittersweet when she went into hibernation just before we moved to Alberta.

Two years later when visiting New Brunswick, my husband and I found, not only had she survived, had a litter of 5 pups, but also remembered us! It was truly a beautiful gift.

Cat Pet Portraits- then and now

It was during this time in New Brunswick, that I found a love for painting pet portraits.

I saw a photo of a very dear friends’ pet cat. His eyes were incredible! I took up the challenge, to recreate those 'eyes to the soul'. While looking back, it certainly was not my best pet portrait, but it's still my favorite!

It opened an intimate world to helping clients keep or bring back memories of their beloved, furry family members.
